L’Alquería comes in three varieties.

L’Alquería Alfafarenca

EVOO comes exclusively from early harvest Alfafarenca olives (second half of October), in pre-veraison in the center of the Sierra de Mariola Natural Park (Alicante). This variety refers to the Alicante town of Alfafara where the centenary olive trees are found. It is protected by the DOP Aceites of the Valencian Community.

It is an autochthonous variety that is valued for its agronomic hardiness and for the high quality of the extracted extra virgin oil. In addition, its high amount of antioxidants makes it a very stable oil.

Furthermore, due to its resistance to cold winters and hot summers, the Alfafarenca variety has always been the predominant variety in the Sierra de Mariola. The land is characterized by small terraces or terraces of limestone, near the Mediterranean Sea about 750 meters above sea level. This privileged location makes this olive juice the only one in the world.

On the nose intense, with sweet aromas of banana and tomato greens, persistent and harmonious. The green tones stand out over the fruity ones. On the palate it is dense, with great personality, balanced between itchiness and bitterness, with an aftertaste of green banana peel, tomato and green almond peel.

L’Alquería Blanqueta

Limited production, exclusively of blanquette olives harvested in pre-veraison in the Comtat region, Alicante. Its name refers to its whitish color during ripening. Covered by the DOP Aceites of the Valencian Community, indigenous to Muro de Alcoy, a town where our oil mill is located. Its high content of Vitamin E, Polyphenols and linoleic acid makes it one of the healthiest EVOOs in the world.

On the nose it presents high intensity, with aromas of freshly cut grass and fig, persistent and harmonious. In the mouth it leaves a fresh sensation, with an almost null bitterness and slightly more spicy. Very persistent, long-lasting and pleasant vegetable sensation on the palate.

Picual

Limited production, it is the most widespread variety in the world and also in Spain, since in Jaén, where 95% of the olive plantations are picual. Our plantation is located near the Mediterranean Sea, below 300m above sea level. For this reason, our Picual oils are sweeter and fresher, compared to the bitter ones in the interior of the peninsula.

Picual de l’Alquería Extra Virgin Oil is excellent for health due to its composition of fatty acids and natural antioxidants. It has a high content of monounsaturated oleic acid against cardiovascular diseases. It also has a low content of linoleic acid, essential for the human diet in small amounts. This makes it a very resistant and stable variety, excellent for daily use in the kitchen due to its good thermal behavior.

On the nose, green aroma of fig, fresh wood, tomato, with hints of almond, banana and apple. It presents a light green almond finish with little astringency. In the mouth, it is a medium-intense and green fruity oil with some ripe notes, sweet entry, with positive and balanced notes.

L’Alquería, the Oil Mill

Ecological EVOO in the middle of the Sierra de Mariola Natural Park (Alicante). Family business dedicated to organic olive oil, a few kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea. We take care of the entire process, from the tree to the packaging, thus guaranteeing the highest quality. For this reason, we collect the olives at their optimum ripeness and quickly extract their oil in the cold.

We then store the oil in stainless steel tanks inert with nitrogen. All this is linked to the native Blanqueta and Alfafarenca varieties of our centenary olive trees.

Quality begins in the field

Knowing the trees and providing them with the necessary accessories is essential, following environmentally friendly methods. For this, we take into account that the methods of fighting pests and diseases and nutritional needs are covered with products authorized for use in organic farming.

We do not leave the decision to start the harvest to chance, which is key to obtaining intense and balanced aromas and flavors.

Health Notes

The care of the complete process and the cold extraction of the olives allows to keep intact the precious polyphenols that only quality EVOO contains. Indeed, a few years ago the opposite was done, the oil was extracted with heat to achieve the maximum oleic content per olive. The downside of this process is that heat destroys these highly volatile components, and what is a medicine turns into a simple vegetable fat.

Recent studies have shown that some of the EVOO polyphenols are capable of dealing with complex diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s.
