History
Between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD, Roman ships that used to transport food used the amphora, especially practical when carrying olive oil. The amphora weighed about 30kg and contained about 70l of oil. They came from the banks of the Guadalquivir, the olive groves most demanded by the Empire for the ease of accessing a reliable, fast and safe means of transport.
After the conquest of Hispania Romana Beatia became an important administrative and commercial center, as it was a mandatory stop on the Cástulo-Málaga trade route. Legend has it that the Roman brigades led by Julius Caesar camped for several days at that time in a lush olive field. At that time Solarium Baetim, Julius Caesar’s troops, enjoyed for days the then known as Oleum ex albis ulivis.
