What is Unfiltered olive oil?
Unfiltered olive oil is an intermediate product of olive oil extraction. It is actually the initial cloudy juice of the olive drupes soon after crushing, separation and decanting and before final filtration.
Some producers of extra virgin olive oil produce unfiltered olive oils. Unfiltered one contains some solids in suspension and small amounts of water from the olive fruit.
Filtered olive oils moves from the mill to the filter, to the bottle and then is sold to consumers. Unfiltered olive oil does not go through a mechanical filtration process. It moves from the mill to the bottle and is then sold to consumers. The polyphenol content remains high.
From an organoleptic point of view, some consumers think that unfiltered olive oil is more flavour intense, that in filtered olive oils aromas can be detected much better. However, there is not an unite opinion given by experts in our sector.
Is unfiltered olive oil healthy?
Talking from the health perspective, unfiltered olive oil is rich in anti-inflammatory antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and zero dietary cholesterol. These antioxidants are perfect for preventing various heart diseases, maintaining healthy body weight and in providing a balanced nutrition for the human body.
Is it ok to cook with unfiltered olive oil?
We recommend using this juice only and exclusively raw or for cooking at low temperatures (stews, stir-fries, etc.), and not to use unfiltered olive oil for frying or at temperatures above 120ºC.
Can you drink unfiltered olive oil?
Consuming between one teaspoon and one tablespoon (three teaspoons) of olive oil should be enough to get you the benefits without upsetting your stomach. While you can drink olive oil at any time of day, many people say that they prefer to do it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
