DO La Rioja

The Extra Virgin (Virgen Extra) oils from DO La Rioja possess an intense fruitiness, with notes of mown grass, tomato plant, and fig tree, and sweet hints of apple or dried fruits. On the palate, they are slightly almond-flavored with a soft bitterness and a persistent pungency (spiciness). They are primarily obtained from the Arroniz variety, although Picual, Hojiblanca, and Arbequina are also used, among others. They have a high content of oleic acid.
