Oro del Desierto 1/10

£19.00/Unit

Coupage (Arbequina and Picual), opaque and intense green, typical of freshly extracted oils.

Intense flavor and aroma, astringent on the palate, with medium spiciness and bitterness.

Good balance, pairs well with fresh cheeses, green salads, and cold sauces.

Oro del Desierto 1/10

Oro del Desierto 1/10 is a very early harvest oil, from early October, when the olives are still ripening. Therefore, it takes 10 kg of this type of olive to obtain 1 liter of oil of this quality at these dates, hence our name 1/10.

Indeed, it is a freshly extracted oil, a fresh seasonal product that cannot be found at other times of the year. Due to the special edition of this product and being freshly extracted, we recommend consuming it only raw.

The Mill

It is literally produced in the desert where it almost never rains, and this, paradoxically, is what makes it one of the most awarded extra virgin oils in the world.

Thanks to this permanent dryness, it has been necessary to develop the technology of controlled irrigation, or drip irrigation, which allows for the exact measurement of the water that the olive tree drinks. This way, stressing the tree in the summer so that its olives are dense in fatty matter, and opening the tap at night to limit evaporation.

Additionally, the desert climate is very harsh on typical pests like the Olive Fly. Indeed, these pests do affect other areas of the Peninsula and are devastating! These insects, which lay their larvae inside the olive, need a mild climate and a minimum amount of water. And that is exactly what they do not find in the Tabernas Desert.

These two circumstances, controlling the development of the olive during the year and controlling the pests, are key. This allows Rafael Alonso, the owner of the plantation, to predict his production with great accuracy. No surprises, and consequently no price fluctuations.
