Oro del Desierto Origen

At Oro del Desierto, we are constantly driven by innovation and the pursuit of excellence in our products. We have embarked on a new and exciting project that involves the recovery of a unique native variety from the province of Almería, known as Picual de Almería. This variety owes its name to its visual similarity to the original Picual, although it presents significant differences in both agronomic aspects and in the oil it produces.

We have chosen the name “Origen” for this Limited Edition, as this variety is one of the most ancient and rare in our region. The tree is vigorous and very productive, although it has a late maturation. It shows a 70% green fruit coloration in the first weeks of December, making it one of the latest maturing varieties in our area.

The Picual de Almería olive is extremely limited in its distribution, and is only found in certain areas of our province, with the Tabernas Desert being one of those areas. The estate from where it comes is situated about 850 meters above sea level in a small mountainous area. The olives are harvested and brought to our mill to be processed on the same day, ensuring maximum freshness.

The Limited Edition Origen by Oro del Desierto is an exceptional oil, not only due to the rarity of the variety but also because of its organoleptic characteristics, with an aromatic complexity and a balanced, harmonious flavor. Due to its limited production, this oil is marketed exclusively in 500 ml bottles.

With this project, we contribute to the revaluation of a nearly extinct variety and, along with the Lechín variety, we maintain our commitment to preserving ancestral varieties that have fallen into disuse in favor of more common ones nationally.
