Aceite DeOrtegas

At DeOrtegas, we produce four unique organic monovarietals, Arbequina, Picual, Cornicabra, and Hojiblanca, each with a distinct personality that allows you to appreciate their great diversity of aromas and nuances. We also offer a delicious “à la carte” Coupage that surprises with its balance and smoothness.

These are very aromatic juices, fruity with notes of green apple, banana, mango, or more herbaceous with green leaf, freshly cut grass, almond, tomato, and artichoke. Presented in glass formats of 250 and 500 ml, and cans of 3 and 5 liters.

The organic EVOOs from DeOrtegas cater to customers who value and invest in organic and artisanal products. The brand is present in supermarkets, gourmet, and organic product stores in Spain.

They are also exported to other European countries (France, Holland, Switzerland, Finland, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Russia), as well as Taiwan, Japan, the USA, and Canada, representing 70% of the production.

The Mill

Founded in 2008 by Marcelo and Rafaela Ortega, this family business has a long history in organic farming. It is based in Yecla, in the northernmost part of the province of Murcia. It is dedicated to the production of superior quality organic extra virgin olive oils.

Located in the area of “Los Pinillos” between the sierras of Buey and Serral, in the Altiplano Murciano region. With an altitude ranging between 600 and 800 meters above sea level. A continental climate characterized by dry conditions with hot summers and cold winters and low rainfall. This contributes to the good development of olive trees and the practice of organic farming.

In total, there are 33,000 olive trees of the Arbequina, Picual, Cornicabra, and Hojiblanca varieties. These were chosen for their maturation cycles to avoid overlapping harvests and thus collect each variety at its optimal ripeness. These are olive trees planted 25 years ago, cultivated in a traditional manner and free from any chemical products.

DeOrtegas, Organic Farming

At DeOrtegas, we have been committed to organic farming since our beginnings 30 years ago. We were pioneers in this type of crop in the Murcia region. This involves taking care of every aspect of the productive development of our olive trees. Throughout the year, we monitor their growth, pruning, tillage, and nutrient supply.

Olive Tree Care

From pruning, all operations are directed towards achieving harmonious growth of the olive tree and its fruits. This ensures proper development and reaching the end of their productive stage with proper ripening.

Harvesting and Cold Extraction

Always hand-picked, never from the ground, in mid-October, when the fruit is at its optimum ripeness (veraison). Mechanically harvested to avoid any damage, then immediately transported to the mill to prevent the olives from piling up and heating. Finally, the cold extraction process is carried out just a few hours after harvesting.

Organic farming allows us to respect the environment and make reasonable use of water, a scarce resource in Spain. Additionally, in the olive groves exposed to significant weather conditions, pests and other diseases are rare. Therefore, the use of pesticides and other chemicals is unnecessary, which enhances the quality of the EVOO.

Depending on the month of the year, the color of the oil you receive may differ from the photo. However, we remind you that the color of an oil has no relation to its aroma and flavor.
